Oracle Webcasts woo developers

Oracle is wooing software developers with online education classes and online chats with executives. The new feature, called iDevelop 2001, is the latest enhancement to the Oracle Technology Network site for software developers. Starting this week, Oracle is offering live and taped Webcasts on using Oracle software and technology such as XML (Extensible Markup Language), a Web standard for data exchange. Company executives, such as Chief Executive Larry Ellison, will also hold online chats with developers, the company said. Like Microsoft, IBM and other rivals, Oracle has been courting software developers with a Web site aimed at giving them the resources, advice and software needed to build their business applications. In the coming weeks, Oracle will also create a new service allowing programmers to post their software code online, so they can get feedback and advice from other developers.
