Novell earnings back in black

Software maker posts a second-quarter profit after a year-ago loss.

Software company Novell on Wednesday posted a quarterly profit after a year-ago loss, helped by initiatives to cut costs. Second-quarter net income was $3 million, or 1 cent per share, compared with a net loss of $16 million, or 4 cents per share, a year ago. Revenue fell to $278 million from $297 million.
