Newport Opticom receives $7 million

Newport Opticom is expected to announce Wednesday it has received a $7 million first round of funding, led by Sienna Ventures. Other investors include Investar and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC). Newport Beach, Calif.-based Newport Opticom manufactures fiber optic switches that use light wave signals, rather than electrical conversions.
