Microsoft acquires Mesa Group

The closely held groupware developer offers services to customers who want to migrate Lotus Notes applications to Microsoft Exchange server.

Still on a buying spree, Microsoft said today it acquired closely held Mesa Group, which offers services to customers who want to migrate Lotus Notes applications to the Microsoft Exchange server.

Terms were not disclosed. The buyout of the groupware developer is Microsoft's latest acquisition.

"As customers continue to deploy Microsoft Exchange server 5.5 in record numbers, they tell us they want to unify all messaging and collaboration functionality on a single infrastructure," Rich Tong, vice president of marketing for the applications and tools group at Microsoft, said in a statement. "The acquisition of Mesa allows us to give customers what they want--a way to coexist while they migrate their Notes application to Exchange."

Added Eric Schultz, chief executive of the Mesa Group: "We are looking forward to continuing to help Notes customers migrate to Exchange as part of a comprehensive Microsoft offering."

Mesa was founded in 1989.
