French distributor MandrakeSoft cut the price of its version of Linux to $12.50 Monday for customers who have previously bought another operating system, the company said. The Operating System Refugee Offer requires that customers fax, mail or e-mail proof of purchase of another operating system to the company.

Under the deal, customers get a copy of Mandrake Linux 8.1, 8.2 or the new 9.0 for $12.50 and also receive a $12.50 coupon for purchase of the Mandrake PowerPack, a software add-on that includes Sun Microsystems' StarOffice suite, remote management software, control panel software and other improvements.
