Watch this: Apple's speedy Mac Pro arrives in December

The brand-new Mac Pro, years in the waiting, will hit store shelves before the year is out, Apple announced on Tuesday.

Apple announced that its new (and diminutive) Mac Pro will be available before the end of the year. The company plans to launch the desktop for a starting price of $2,999.

Apple unveiled the Mac Pro earlier this year at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The computer comes in a black, cylindrical case, standing in stark contrast to the standard desktop design.

The computer comes with the Intel Xeon E5 with up to 12 cores and up to 64GB of RAM. The Mac Pro is also the first Apple computer to come with dual-workstation GPUs and supports up to 1GB of Flash storage. Three 4K displays can be connected to the Mac Pro.

The Mac Pro is the power user's favored device. For years, the Mac Pro has been used by graphic designers, filmmakers, and others that perform resource-intensive tasks. For years, however, Apple only added a few updates to the Mac Pro, while its other computers received major upgrades. A petition was even started to get Apple to announce whether it would be launching a new Mac Pro or not, so power users could stick with the company or move on. It seems now that they'll be holding on.
