Lotus Drops Notes Price, Plans Web Link

Lotus has drastically dropped its pricing for the Notes desktop software from $155 to $69.

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts--Officials from IBM's
Lotus unit announced this morning a dramatic drop in pricing for the Notes desktop run-time software package. Previously priced at $155 per copy, users will now pay $69 each for the business groupware package.

The move was made in response to competition from intranet providers such as Netscape Communications and the prospect of increased future competition from Microsoft.

Officials also revealed that the company will introduce Notes 4.2 during the second quarter of 1996. The new version will feature support for HTML, HTTP, and Java applets.
