Little-known Centura soars SAP news

Shares of little-known Centura Software Corp. (Nasdaq: CNTR) soared Friday, blasting up 93 percent on heavy volume on news it is working on products for informaion appliances with SAP Labs Tokyo. Centura was the second-most active on the Nasdaq.

Shares in the Redwood Shores, California-based were up 1 31/32 to 4 3/32, vaulting over their 52-week high of 2 3/8. Centura makes e-business and information appliance databases, and announced it would be working with SAP Labs Tokyo (NYSE: SAP) to enable mobile access for mySAP.com. Shares in SAP, a German software company, were down 7/8 to 37 3/8.

The joint effort will extend the SAP software offered within mySAP.com to handheld devices and information appliances, allowing them to interact. The collaboration will leverage Centura's Raima Database Manager on the Microsoft Windows CE operating system platform, and is being piloted at Wuerth Japan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wuerth AG, which distributes assembly and fastening technologies, according to the press release, which did not mention financials of the SAP deal.
