KPMG, Ingram Micro build e-commerce site

Professional services firm KPMG says it has teamed with Ingram Micro, a technology product distributor, to build a Web site for Ingram's customers.

Professional services firm KPMG said it has teamed with Ingram Micro, a technology product distributor, to build a Web site for Ingram's customers.

Mountain View, California-based KPMG said in a statement that it will help build an e-commerce site for the wholesale distributor and help focus on the development of Ingram Micro's marketing systems so that they are capable of the buying and selling between its customers.

The new site forms a link in the technology supply chain by providing suppliers, distributors, and resellers with a hub that facilitates the exchange of product, program, and market information, according to both companies. The new site will be a single point-of-contact that will combine all customer, distribution, and supply channels.

"For example, right now it's difficult for resellers and distributors to forecast supply and demand or maximize the value of targeted promotional programs because they cannot easily track buying trends and analyze customer information," Keyur Patel, a KPMG executive, said in a statement.

Once complete, Ingram said its site will allow suppliers to more effectively manage the supply chain, while giving buyers the ability to make more informed purchasing and distribution decisions.

While Ingram's existing Web site already consists of some e-commerce tools, this complete e-commerce site will be available some time in July, according to an Ingram spokeswoman. Ingram also said that there is approximately 45,000 registered users for its existing site, and assume that at least the same amount will utilize the new site.
