IDC sees growth in Asia PC shipments

Market researcher IDC expects PC shipments in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan, to hit 22 million units this year--an increase of 10 percent from last year. This forecast is in spite of an expected drop in worldwide PC shipments, from 131.7 million units last year to 129.6 million this year. Kitty Fok, IDC Asia-Pacific associate director, said the region's growth in PC shipments will be fueled by China. She expects the Chinese market to grow more than 25 percent this year, citing the country's low PC penetration rate and government purchases. Staff writer Anand Menon reported from Singapore.
