Big Blue and the e-commerce software maker sign a joint marketing pact targeting the retail, financial and dot-com markets that IBM expects will add $1 billion to its revenues.

IBM and e-commerce software maker Vignette today signed a joint marketing pact targeting the retail, financial and dot-com markets.

IBM said it expects the deal to boost revenue by $1 billion.

As part of the deal, the two companies will jointly market and sell Vignette's V/5 e-business applications with IBM's WebSphere server software, the companies said in a joint statement.

IBM and Vignette said the integration of Vignette's e-business software and IBM's WebSphere will allow customers to connect with sales prospects and customers, as well as handle transaction exchanges with suppliers and partners on the Web.

The deal is the latest in a series of agreements that IBM has inked to promote its WebSphere software. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Last month, Big Blue teamed with business-to-business software powerhouse Ariba on a new bundled suite of products and services to help midsize suppliers conduct transactions through online marketplaces.

The package includes IBM's WebSphere product, services and support, coupled with a direct connection to Ariba's network of online marketplaces.

WebSphere allows companies to integrate enterprise applications and process electronic transactions over the Web.
