IBM reports big mainframe sale

Hewitt Associates, which manages human resources activities for General Electric, Boeing and others, has bought six of IBM's latest mainframes in a multimillion deal, IBM plans to announce next week. Hewitt is buying the new z900 model including the Parallel Sysplex feature, which lets a job be shared by several servers and lets one server take over for another if one fails. "It's fairly rare" that IBM sells that many mainframes in one swoop, an IBM spokeswoman said.
