Hitachi PC (HIT), a relative newcomer to the U.S. computing scene, grabbed the 12th largest U.S. marketshare for portable vendors in the second quarter, according to research firm IDC.

"To literally go from zero to top 20 in market share is almost unbelievable,'' said Mark Yahiro, Hitachi marketing and business development vice president in a statement. "IDC's data confirms our conviction to be a tier-one player.''

Earlier this year, Hitachi launched its first notebooks, the C and M-Series.
