Hewlett-Packard buys start-up for security push
Hewlett-Packard says it acquired start-up Security Force Software, expanding the computer giant's range of test and measurement products and services.
Under the agreement, HP said it will be able to expand its portfolio of communications test systems for business and public networks with its latest security purchase.
Security Force, which was founded in 1998 and provides scanning and intrusion-detection security products, said that its software is targeted toward security consultants as well as system administrators responsible for keeping an enterprise network secure.
HP said that the Security Force acquisition follows its April acquisition of Telegra, a developer of facsimile-protocol testing systems and equipment, which added voice and facsimile testing to HP's Network Systems Test Division.
"As more service providers offer Web hosting, and, as enterprise networks become more mission critical than ever, security becomes paramount," Bill Mortimer, HP's general manager of its Network Systems Test Division, said in a statement. "The acquisition of Security Force Software and our ongoing investment and alliances will help HP provide the products and services required to secure networks worldwide."
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
