Equity Movers: Agilent, Avnet, Lucent, Nortel

Agilent, Avnet, Lucent Technologies, Nortel Networks and Pumatech are among the companies expected to move in the markets Tuesday.

The following is a list of technology companies that may move in the markets, Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Agilent (A): The maker of test and measurement equipment said fiscal fourth-quarter profit more than doubled. The company said it earned 66 cents a share, compared with 39 cents a share in the year-earlier period. Analysts surveyed by First Call/Thomson Financial estimated that Agilent would earn 51 cents. Shares of Agilent rose $4.38, or 9.8 percent, to $49.

Avnet (AVT): The company that distributes computer parts and semiconductors warned that its earnings for the second quarter, ending in December, will be between 75 and 80 cents per share. Analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial expected the company to earn 85 cents. Shares of Avnet were unchanged at $22.69.

Lucent Technologies (LU): The maker of telecommunications equipment said Tuesday it might have to shave $125 million off its already reported revenue. The reduction could cause the company to reduce its earnings for the quarter ended Sept. 30 by 2 cents. Lucent announced a fourth-quarter profit of $600 million, or 18 cents a share, on revenue of $9.4 billion. Shares of Lucent fell $1.75, or 8.36 percent, to $19.19.

Nortel Networks (NT): The maker of communications equipment reaffirmed its financial guidance Monday, saying it expects fourth-quarter earnings of 26 cents a share on revenue of $8.5 billion to $8.8 billion. Shares of Nortel rose $1.50, or 4.26 percent, to $36.75.

Pumatech (PUMA) The maker of software to connect mobile devices to the Internet reported a first-quarter net loss of $3.3 million, or 8 cents a share, excluding noncash amortization and compensation charges. Analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial expected the company to lose 9 cents per share. Shares of Pumatech fell $1.94, or 16.06 percent, to $10.13.
