Compaq server helps new Visa system

Visa USA will use a Compaq Himalaya server to join Visa's existing payment networks to a future system using Internet networking technology, Compaq said Tuesday. A Himalaya system will forward transactions made with today's Visa network to the new Visa back-end processing system so banks and others who use Visa services won't need to change how they interact with Visa, the companies said. Visa's new system for processing credit card transactions is called "Direct Exchange." Visa expects the system to handle 100 billion transactions per year, worth, on average, $60 billion dollars an hour.
