Compaq partners to integrate video

Compaq and VideoServer will team up to provide videoconferencing, audio, and graphics collaboration solutions.

Compaq (CPQ) and VideoServer (VSVR) will team up to provide videoconferencing, audio, and graphics collaboration solutions, the two companies said today.

Compaq will work with resellers in North America to incorporate VideoServer hardware and software into Compaq's server systems. The hardware and software packages will make it easier for companies to set up real-time conferencing systems in which documents and audiovisual content can be shared with other individuals or groups.

The combined conferencing solution will integrate the Compaq ProLiant line of servers along with audio, video, and data processing units, H.323 standard conferencing gateways, and ISDN and Ethernet connectivity from VideoServer. Optional add-in modules will enable up to four conference sites to be viewed simultaneously.

Initially, a 4-user and 8-user system will be offered, and either system can be upgraded to support up to 48 users. The new offerings will augment Compaq's current videoconferencing terminal offerings, according to the company. No pricing on the systems was announced.
