Compaq Computer today lowered prices up
to 24 percent on most of its Pentium-based commercial desktop PCs, the
announcement coming in the wake of the company's price reductions two weeks
ago on its high-end Pentium Pro desktops.
Today's price cuts span Compaq's entire commercial desktop product line, including select models of the ProLinea E, ProLinea, Deskpro and Deskpro XL.The ProLinea E 5/100 Model 630 with a 100 MHz Pentium processor, for example, is now available for $1,299--a reduction of 24 percent.
Prices of selected Deskpro models were reduced from 20 percent to 24 percent, while several models in Compaq's flagship product line, the Deskpro XL, were reduced from 8 percent to 23 percent
The ProLinea 5133 Model 1200, with a 133MHz Pentium processor, is now priced 11 percent to 18 percent below comparable Hewlett-Packard VL4 and IBM 350 desktop products, Compaq said.
