Cisco scales ATM to size
Cisco Systems introduces new software tools to ease management and increase the ability to scale Asynchronous Transfer Mode networks.
Cisco's ATMDirector helps administrators configure, monitor, and troubleshoot a network of ATM switches, routers, and LAN gear. Integrated with the company's CiscoView device management application, ATMDirector can map an ATM network topology and display real-time linking information.
The software can also trace the path of ATM links and create Permanent Virtual Connections (PVC) over an ATM network.
The company also announced support for Private Network-to-Network Interface (P-NNI) Phase 1 software within the LightStream 1010 ATM. The P-NNI specification provides a sophisticated set of protocols that let ATM switches exchange information. The P-NNI can scale to any size ATM network, according to company officials.
Cisco's ATMDirector software costs $4.995 when ordered alone and $2,995 as an upgrade to the CiscoWorks suite. The P-NNI software for the LightStream 1010 as an individual tool feature within the Cisco IOS internetworking operating system costs $2,500. All products are available now.
