Ariba and Tibco Software today said they are teaming to offer customers software for linking buying and selling software to existing back-end systems.

Under the multiyear agreement, Ariba, which makes procurement software that enables companies to buy and sell everything from technology equipment to office supplies to industrial parts online, said it will integrate and exclusively resell Tibco's real-time integration software. Palo Alto, Calif.-based Tibco, which makes software so that various business applications can communicate with each other, is one of the early leaders in the enterprise application integration (EAI) market that include companies like IBM, Neon Software, Software Technologies Corporation (STC), and Vitria.

With more companies jumping into e-business, companies are building Web sites that link their customers, partners, suppliers and employees. Such business-to-business Web sites require the integration of business software applications never meant to communicate and interoperate, such as mainframe software and human resources and financial applications.

By combining Tibco's integration software into its e-commerce software, Ariba said it can help link a company's existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) software from SAP, Oracle and PeopleSoft with its own.

Also under the deal, Tibco and Ariba said they have agreed to jointly develop tools that allow existing Ariba customers to migrate to the new ERP integration technology. The companies also said they will jointly develop, test, train, sell and market the combined products and new tools.

The Tibco integration software products are expected to be integrated and bundled with Ariba e-commerce products beginning in the second quarter of next year, the two companies said in a statement. No pricing was announced.
