Aria Web tool gets a tune-up

Andromedia unveils a new version of its Aria Web site tracking software that lets ISPs and hosting services monitor traffic on multiple Web sites.

Andromedia will unveil a new version of its Aria Web site tracking software later this month that lets ISPs and hosting services monitor traffic on multiple Web sites.

Aria lets Webmasters take a snapshot of site traffic at any given moment and lets them follow individuals as they surf through the site to get a more accurate picture of how their sites are used.

Later this week, the company also plans to announce that the Monitor component of Aria, a Web server plug-in that captures data on site traffic, will be available for Windows NT Web servers. According to a July survey by networking consultancy Netcraft, 21 percent of Web servers now run on the NT operating system.

The NT version will be available by October. To process traffic data captured by Monitor, Webmasters must use the Aria Recorder component on a Unix-based machine, according to the company.

Andromedia said Version 2.0 of Aria, due to ship next month, can handle sites with as many as 10 million hits a day, up from 1 million in the current product. The next version also will sport customizable reports and an improved user interface.

The 2.0 software will be priced from $10,000; the NT version for Monitor, which sits on the host Web server to record traffic, will cost $2,000 per Web server.
