Apple ready to unleash new 'Jaguar' OS

Apple Computer has wrapped up development work on the next version of its Mac OS X operating system. Version 10.2 is code-named Jaguar and is scheduled to go on sale at the end of the month. The company is said to have reached the gold master stage, meaning the company has finished developing the software and is ready to move into production of CDs and into the installation of the operating system on computers.

An Apple representative did not comment specifically on reaching the gold master stage, but said, "We are on track to deliver Jaguar to customers on Aug. 24."
