Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices moved its South Asia headquarters from Hong Kong to Shanghai this week and announced a new head of sales for the region: Joe Krystofik, a company vice president. The company has lagged behind rival Intel in China and other developing regions, AMD executives have said, but it has decided to become more aggressive overseas, partly because that's where sales continue to grow.

Earlier this year, AMD invested in advertising billboards in numerous subway stations in Shanghai to tout the relative benefits of its Athlon chip over Intel's Pentium 4 processor.
