AmazonUK draws 5 millionth visitor

Amazon.com's British unit has recorded its 5 millionth customer, the Web superstore said Friday. Amazon.co.uk has shot to the No. 1 spot among U.K. online stores since first launching in the United Kingdom in 1998. According to Internet study group Jupiter-MMXI, sales at Amazon make up 16 percent of the all U.K. e-commerce. Analysts forecast much of Amazon's growth will come from the Web store's International operations. For the three months ended Dec. 31, Amazon reported international sales of $262.4 million, up 81 percent from a year ago.
