Akamai losses shrink

Akamai Technologies, a leading content-delivery technology company reported Wednesday that quarterly losses declined as customers for a key service climbed sharply.

The company reported a net loss of $8.6 million, or 7 cents per share. Akamai's loss from operations was $13.3 million, or 11 cents a share, compared with analysts' expectations of a 15-cent per share loss. The operational loss for the previous quarter was 17 cents per share. The company reported substantial gains in its EdgeSuite content and application delivery service product, saying it now has 346 clients, up from 269.
