11 ISPs to host Domino for rent

Lotus Development says it has signed 11 online service providers to deliver services based on Domino Instant Host rentable applications.

Lotus Development said it has signed up 11 online service providers to deliver services based on Domino Instant Host rentable Web-based applications.

The group of Net service providers, including America Online, British Telecom, Netcom Online Communication Services, and US West have agreed to provide the hosting package that allows users to self-subscribe to Domino-based collaborative applications.

Developed jointly by Lotus and Interliant, Domino Instant Host allows the deployment of Web-based groupware applications that end users can access from outside of their companies' firewalls.

According to International Data Corporation, the market for this type of Web-based shared applications will grow to more than $400 million by 2000.

Lotus said Domino Instant Host lets service providers manage billing, and track and maintain applications in a shared Domino server environment.

Domino Instant Host is now available for Windows NT-based servers. Pricing is based on customer use of the applications on a monthly basis, and electronic keys for activating instances of applications written for the platform are available at Lotus's e-commerce site linked to the Instant Host Web site. Key prices are based on volume and begin at $500 for a 375 user instance month key.
