Yelp takes its reviews to Turkey

Expansion marks the 20th country in which the local business reviews site has a presence.

Yelp's new mobile app for Turkey.

If you've ever wondered where to find the best iskender kebab in Istanbul or a good accountant in Ankara, Yelp might be able to help.

The local business reviews site announced today it has expanded into Turkey, the 20th country in which Yelp has launched its service. Yelp plans to focus its efforts on Istanbul, the country's largest city, Miriam Warren, Yelp VP of New Markets, said in a blog post today written in both Turkish and English.

"Our initial community building efforts in Turkey will concentrate on Istanbul, the only city in the world to span two continents," Warren wrote, "but Yelpers can rate and review the great and the not-so-great businesses from across the country and share what their neighborhoods have to offer both locals and tourists."

People in Turkey can begin using the site, create a profile, and use the mobile app, while local businesses can lay claim to their pages and begin building their profiles.

The expansion comes as Yelp faces increased competition on its home front. Check-in social network Foursquare recently launched a 10-point rating system for local businesses with its iOS app update that bears a striking resemblance to Yelp's business model.
