What would middle-aged Anakin Skywalker look like?

An Imgur user morphs photos of Hayden Christensen and Sebastian Shaw (aka Darth Vader) -- and finds a surprise real-life look-alike.

Jedi Anakin: Hayden Christensen/Sebastian Shaw morph

Star Wars fans were always given weird little glimpses into Anakin Skywalker's life under the Darth Vader mask. We didn't see him unmasked until 77-year-old Sebastian Shaw portrayed him briefly in 1983's "Return of the Jedi." Of course, Anakin was given a fuller life story in the prequel trilogy, when Jake Lloyd played him as a boy and Hayden Christensen as a young adult.

But what about all that time in the middle? If Anakin hadn't turned to the dark side, and if he hadn't been horribly burned in the Duel on Mustafar that required him to wear his menacing black suit the rest of his days, what would he have looked like?

Imgur user eye2 decided to find out.

"I wanted to see what a middle-aged, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker would've looked like," eye2 wrote. "So I face-morphed Hayden Christensen and Sebastian Shaw, polished it up, added a beard, etc. Just something I did in my spare time over a few days. Pretty happy with how it turned out!"

Eye2 used Norrkross MorphX on a Mac to craft the morph. Finding photos of Christensen was easy, but Shaw proved more difficult. "Also had to teach myself colorization since apparently there are exactly zero hi-res, color pics of Sebastian Shaw in existence, so that was interesting," eye2 wrote. And the hair may look familiar; it was borrowed from a photo of actor Michael Douglas.

The resulting photo, which adds Jedi robes and a salt-and-pepper beard, is a neat mix of the two actors. Midlife Anakin could be the carefully grayed older guy who's gazing creepily at his wife in a Cialis commercial, or that scruffy physics professor you had in college who always canceled class on Fridays. He could also slip into just about any Hallmark Channel family drama playing the dedicated dad, making the "I am your father" quote even more fitting.

But at least one Imgur user, SilentiumFrangat, spotted something else when the beard was added. Was middle-aged Anakin really George Lucas all along?
