Vodafone offers postpaid customers free Spotify Premium access

A deal between Vodafone and Spotify will see new Red Plan customers get free access to Spotify Premium as an added bonus.

A month after announcing a brand partnership with the Swedish music service, Vodafone is offering Spotify Premium subscriptions for customers on its Red plans.

Details of the partnership were pretty thin on the ground when it was first announced, with the telco only promising to give customers "greater access to millions of songs" through Spotify.

However, Vodafone has announced that from today, new customers connecting to any of its postpaid 12- or 24-month Vodafone Red plans (or those upgrading to one of these plans) will receive a free Spotify Premium subscription -- a service that normally sets you back AU$11.99 per month.

The length of the subscription depends on the plan you choose -- the $70 Red Plan will get you 6 months of Spotify Premium, the $80 Red Plan will get you 12 months and the $100 Red Plan will get you 24 months.

Usage isn't unmetered, so using Spotify will still count towards your monthly data limit, but Vodafone also offers unlimited data for the first two months of its 12 and 24-month contracts. As a guide, Vodafone says that streaming an hour of music a day at normal to high quality (96kbps-160kbps) would see you go through 1.5 to 2GB of data per month.

The offer is available to new customers from today, and to "existing customers who upgrade or rate plan change to a Vodafone Red plan over 12 or 24 months, excluding any month to month SIM only plan". Vodafone is also offering the deal to Red Plan customers who pre-ordered either the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or Note Edge before today.

Of course, this news will be of little comfort to Taylor Swift fans who have been tuning into their Spotify accounts to discover that all her music has been pulled from the streaming service. Still, we're assured that Spotify offers a range of other singers to satisfy our pop-country needs.
