Twitter's Jack Dorsey joins Disney's board

Walt Disney wants to tap into the Twitter co-founder's tech expertise.

Twitter co-founder and Square CEO Jack Dorsey.

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is the latest addition to Walt Disney's board of directors, Disney announced Monday.

The media giant's Board of Directors has elected Dorsey to take over the seat of Judith L. Estrin, former chief technology officer of Cisco Systems. Estrin has served on the board for 15 years, the maximum amount of years for the seat.

"I am honored and humbled to join the Disney Board," Dorsey said in a press release. "Disney is a timeless company, one we all grow up learning from and admiring."

Dorsey, who is currently chairman of Twitter and CEO of Square, will stand for election at the board's annual meeting on March 18. He will advise Disney, which owns animation studio Pixar and Star Wars creator Lucasfilm, on its digital strategy.

"Jack Dorsey is a talented entrepreneur who has helped create groundbreaking new businesses in the social media and commerce spaces," Chairman Robert A. Iger said in the release. "The perspective he brings to Disney and its Board is extremely valuable, given our strategic priorities, which include utilizing the latest technologies and platforms to reach more people and to enhance the relationship we have with our customers."
