Short Take: Wilson signs law for emailing public documents

California Gov. Pete Wilson has signed into law a measure requiring state agencies to send requested public documents and other communications via email whenever possible. The law, sponsored by state Sen. Rob Hurtt, allows the agencies to recover any additional costs incurred from sending the information electronically. It is one of a handful of bills concerning the Internet that have been signed into law in California, often considered a bellwether state for Net legislation.
