Short Take: VP Gore unveils plan to wire needy schools

Vice President Al Gore announced a plan to connect more of the country's needy schools to the Net. The AFL-CIO, the Communications Workers of America, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are helping to wire 700 facilities on Net Day. Gore also said 53,000 children in the 185 Bureau of Indian Affairs schools will be online by next year, and that the Commerce Department will study computer usage "among all segments of society" to determine where there are gaps in access.
