Short: AT&T WorldNet expanded to Asia

AT&T announced its WorldNet Internet service is now available in Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia with access speeds ranging from 64 kbps to 1.5 mbps. Starting in October, service will be available on a trial basis to multinational companies in the United Kingdom, and the service will be generally available there in early 1997.
