The sci-fi movies I'm most excited for in 2017

A lot of trailers are coming out now for next year's biggest movies and I wanted to share the ones I'm most excited about.

I'm a huge fan of sci-fi movies. Though the original Star Wars trilogy kicked off decades ago (in a galaxy far, far away), it was nothing short of life-changing to my 7-year-old mind. From then on, I was hooked on sci-fi films, and I'm always on the lookout for the next great offering.

The movie I'm most excited to see in 2017 is "Star Wars Episode 8," but since the trailer won't be available till early next year, here are the other trailers that have me most excited for the year ahead. Obviously, none of us can know what the films will really be like before seeing the final product, but the trailers have me hoping for greatness.

Let's start with "Transformers: The Last Knight." I've seen good Transformer movies and bad ones, but either way I know any movie with director Michael Bay will have intense special effects. It's hard to judge from the trailer, but this one looks like an epic story with some amazing CGI. I'm hoping it will be the one to get the franchise back on track.

Next, "The Mummy" reboot. While Brendan Fraser is no longer in the starring role, this trailer really gets my blood pumping as the airplane flies out of control and begins twisting toward Earth. Whatever you think of his personal life, Tom Cruise has proven to be an excellent action movie hero, and the rest of the star-studded cast makes "The Mummy" look promising.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" was the smash hit that catapulted Chris Pratt to stardom, and it was no fluke. The movie had a great story line, fleshed-out characters and plenty of comedy to boot. Like everyone, I've seen bad sequels before (I'm looking at you, "The Matrix"), but here's hoping the franchise can hold on to a great formula and continue where the original Guardians left off.
