Samsung's 64GB Galaxy S3 is alive and well and due to launch during the second half of the year.
Addressing concerns that the 64GB flavor had been discontinued, Samsung told The Verge that the new model phone is on track for release later this year. The company cautioned that the device is currently scheduled for an international rollout. So U.S. customers may have a longer wait on their hands.
CNET contacted Samsung for comment and will update the story when we get more information. But the company issued the following statement to the Verge:
The 64GB model of the Galaxy S3 will be available during the second half of this year. The market availability and timing may vary and will be determined at the time of release.
The 16GB and 32GB versions of the phone have already boosted Samsung's sales and market share. Thanks to demand for the new phone, Samsung likely sold around 50 million smartphones in the second quarter, according to a collection of analysts recently polled by Reuters.
Samsung telecommunications chief JK Shin said late last month that he expects Galaxy S3 sales to reach 10 million during July. However, Shin wasn't clear as to whether he was referring to shipments to retailers or actual sales to consumers.
After debuting in Europe, the S3 has been trickling into the U.S. market and is now available through all four major carriers. Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and Sprint are asking $199.99 for the 16GB version and $249.99 for 32GB model. T-Mobile's prices are higher, coming in at $279.99 for the 16GB model and $329.99 for the 32GB edition.
