Quote of the day: Microsoft, the 'grand consolidator'

During software rollout, Microsoft's Steve Ballmer talks of his company's big ambitions serving smaller companies.

At the rollout of new database and development software on Monday in San Francisco, Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's chief executive, said that while rival Oracle may be driving consolidation in the high-end of the enterprise software market, Microsoft has big ambitions serving smaller companies.

"We are going to be the grand consolidator of everything else," Ballmer said in an interview with CNET News.com. "That's what we're doing with Dynamics (Microsoft's business applications line), that's what we're doing with the small business accounting product that we've launched. We will be the grand consolidator of everything else."
