PlayStation 3 and 4 to get tricked out with HBO Go app

Sony already has streaming deals with Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and Hulu Plus, and now the company is bringing shows like "Game of Thrones" and "Boardwalk Empire" to its console.

Sony confirmed on Thursday that HBO Go is making its way to PlayStation gaming consoles. The app will first appear on PlayStation 3 and then will come to PlayStation 4, according to the entertainment giant.

"With the HBO Go app on your PlayStation system and an HBO subscription via your cable or satellite provider, you'll have unlimited, on-demand access to your favorite HBO shows, like 'Game of Thrones,' 'Boardwalk Empire,' and 'True Detective'," Sony Computer Entertainment America's senior vice president of business development Phil Rosenberg wrote in a blog post. "HBO Go offers every episode of every season of the network's best shows."

Sony appears to be amping up PlayStation's offerings. Last week, the entertainment giant unveiled PlayStation Now at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The service, set to launch this summer, will stream full PlayStation 3 games to an array of products, including the PlayStation 4, Vita handhelds, and 2014 Bravia TVs. As far as TV and movie streaming, PlayStation has deals with Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, and more.

HBO Go is already available on a host of platforms, including Amazon's Kindle Fire, Google's Chromecast, and Microsoft's Xbox 360. The entertainment app is expected to come to Xbox One later this year.
