Oracle launches developer Java preview

Oracle on Thursday launched a developer preview version of new Java software for building business applications. The database software company posted to its Web site Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.4 Developer Preview, which includes new tools based on the latest Java specification. The tools work with Oracle's Application Server software, according to the company.

The software will allow developers to build new Web services features into applications that run on Oracle's database and application server software. The preview includes the latest Web services integration, management and implementation specifications. Oracle said it plans to include J2EE 1.4 support in an upcoming version of its Application Server.
