Opera releases beta for Mac

Opera Software says it has released the beta version of its Opera 5 browser for the Macintosh. Norway-based Opera Software said the new release supports computers running Mac OS X in the Classic mode. The company also said the Opera 5 for Macintosh will run on PowerPC Macs with Mac OS 7.5 or later. Opera has created a compact, fast-loading browser that can run on a variety of operating systems. In March, Mac owners offered a mixed review of Opera 5, with some praising the software and others complaining of the new version's implementation of Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript and animated GIF (graphics interchange format) displays.
