Nook Newsstand adds Time, People, Fortune
Barnes & Noble expands its Nook Newstand by adding Time, Fortune, People, and a variety of other interactive magazines specifically designed for its 7-inch color e-reader.
Owners of Barnes & Noble's Nook Color have even more reading material to choose from with more than 200 interactive magazines now available through the Nook Newstand.
Starting today, users of the 7-inch color e-book reader will be able to access special editions of Time, Fortune, People, Sports Illustrated, and Parents & Fitness, all designed specifically for the Nook Color. Two more publications--Entertainment Weekly and Cooking Light--promise to hit the newsstand before the end of the year.
Beyond offering the regular content found in the magazines, the Nook editions provide bonus features, such as video and audio podcasts, animations, and photo galleries, according to B&N.
People who already subscribe to the print editions of Fortune, Time, People, and Sports Illustrated can tap into the new online versions for free. Non-subscribers can try out different publications through a 14-day trial or purchase single copies of a specific issue.
To trigger access to the new periodicals, Barnes & Noble is launching a new software update for the Nook Color. Available automatically over the air or through a manual download from the B&N Web site, the latest 1.3 software update also kicks in improvements to the Wi-Fi connectivity and other performance enhancements.
