Services & Software to charge for some video

Online news site plans to introduce a subscription service for viewing video broadcasts early next year.

Michael Silberman, acting editor-in-chief of the, said the company plans to charge visitors for viewing an enhanced set of digital video clips but will maintain basic news feeds for free. A monthly video-subscription might include special news coverage or packaging, or enhanced delivery speeds, he said. The site, a joint venture between Microsoft and NBC, has yet to determine the fees. Rival already offers a paid video-clip service.
