MS scrambles to eliminate delays

Microsoft added 20 links for beta 1 of Explorer 3.0 to avoid download delays.

Seeking to ease a download bottleneck, Microsoft has hastily added 20 download links for beta 1 of its Internet Explorer 3.0 Web browser.

The additional links, which bring the total number to 40, should eliminate the delays encountered by users seeking to download the software, according to the company. Microsoft is also asking users to download the software during off-peak hours, typically before 11:00 a.m. and after 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Internet Explorer 3.0, expected to ship this summer, includes support for Internet mail and newsgroup readers, Visual Basic scripting, Java support, ISDN support, better caching, and improved security.
