Marc Andreessen joins Orbitz board

Online travel company Orbitz on Monday named to its board of directors. Andreessen is credited with helping develop the first Internet browser at the University of Illinois and is a co-founder of Opsware, a provider of data center automation software. Chicago-based Orbitz launched an initial public offering in December.

"As an Internet visionary, Marc will be a valuable addition to our board. Few people possess as much Internet commerce and technology experience as Marc," Orbitz Chairman Jeffrey Katz said in a statement. "His insight will help us continue to deliver innovative products and services to Orbitz users."
