Liquid Audio to distribute indie tunes

Independent record label Matador Records says it has inked a deal with online music software and services company Liquid Audio to distribute Matador's music in digital format through online retailers in the Liquid Music Network. Matador said it plans to offer digital downloads for 99 cents per track or $8.99 per album. The record label said the downloads of Matador's new releases will be offered the day the albums are released in stores. Among the artists that will be available are Stephen Malkmus, Belle and Sebastian, Yo La Tengo, Cat Power, and Mogwai. A Matador Records representative said the independent label is making efforts to add additional content, such as lyrics, pictures and links, to make the digital downloads a successful new medium for its artists and to add value for consumers. The independent label has been distributing promotional MP3s on its Web site for more than a year.
