Knight Ridder reels in Red Herring CEO

Newspaper publisher Knight Ridder has appointed Hilary Schneider, CEO of Red Herring Communications, as president and chief executive of Knight Ridder Digital. Schneider, 41, will leave her post at Red Herring and begin her new job April 29. She will oversee Knight Ridder's 58-plus Web sites, sales efforts and software development. In addition, Knight Ridder said Schneider will be responsible for the company's investments in CareerBuilder and Classified Ventures. San Jose, Calif.-based Knight Ridder publishes 32 daily newspapers. Schneider previously worked for Times Mirror Interactive and The Baltimore Sun Co. In a separate announcement, Red Herring said it will appoint Chris Dobbrow to succeed Schneider. Dobbrow previously served as the senior vice president for RealNames. He also worked for Ziff-Davis and SmartPlanet.
