Snack maker Keebler on Tuesday is launching a new instant chat "buddy," an automated bot called RecipeBuddie, which will let people using AOL Instant Messenger or MSN Messenger call up recipes for the kitchen. The bot will be hosted by an electronic persona known as Becky, a suburban housewife who delivers recipes to busy families, according to New York-based ActiveBuddy, the company whose technology the bot is built on.

This summer, ActiveBuddy introduced a software development kit for Microsoft developers of its automated bot technology that Keebler's advertising agency used to create the recipe service. On Monday, ActiveBuddy introduced the kit for Linux developers.
