For Microsoft, its E3 press conference, marked in past years by celebrity cheerleading from the likes of Halo's Master Chief to Paul McCartney, takes on a special sense of urgency. Despite an overall successful launch for the new Xbox One game console just over six months ago, the perception is that Sony's rival PlayStation 4 has taken the lead position in this generation of living room game hardware.
Microsoft has already hinted at some of its E3 announcements, including more details on Halo 5, which follows a $100 price cut for a Kinect-free version of the Xbox One, a new free games promotion for Xbox Live Gold members, and moving several multimedia apps, including Netflix, out from the Xbox Live Gold paywall.
The CNET Live preshow starts at 9 a.m. PT/noon ET, with hosts Brian Tong and Eric Franklin taking your questions via phone and Twitter.
