Internet Rover may fetch files faster

A new J. River utility may make it easier to download software from FTP sites.

A new utility released today from J. River may make it easier to download software from FTP sites.

Internet Rover is designed to automate the process of selecting, buying, downloading, and installing software from the Internet. The Rover program presents a "map" outlining a variety of free and commercial software organized by category.

To get the software onto their desktops, all users have to do is double-click on the picture. The software then displays a description of the product and asks for confirmation. If a fee is required, the user enters credit card or other financial information, which J. River then processes through Banc One.

J. River says Internet Rover will initially be available for free from its Web site; after an introductory period, the utility will cost $20.
