Internet search engine company Infoseek today officially launched its Infoseek Personal news service, adding access to stories from Reuters news service, Business Wire, PR Newswire, and Usenet newsgroups.
Users can customize the free service to deliver the type of news information interesting to them. Infoseek, including local information such as movie and TV listings, weather forecasts, even custom comics pages.
As the stock prices of search engine firms continue to slide on news of ongoing losses, companies like Yahoo have been trying to differentiate themselves from one another by adding local entertainment guides, news feeds, specialized searches such as directories of email addresses, and even TV shows. The market doesn't seem convinced, however, that the moves will help establish brand identity and consumer loyalty.
