Homestead unveils paid service

Web community builder Homestead Technologies has become the latest Internet company to offer a paid service. The company has introduced Homestead Professional, a Web site building software targeting small businesses that will cost $29.99 a month. The product bundles its existing home page building tools with domain name registration, e-mail accounts, Web hosting and online marketing services. Homestead is one of the few remaining standalone home page builders. The company in January secured $10 million in funding from investors, including VeriSign and venture capital firms Redpoint Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Meritech Capital. It joins many free Web sites that have begun offering paid areas on their sites. Last week, Yahoo unveiled a real-time stock tracking service on its site for $9.95 a month.
